Family matters

I was recently asked how important is the involvement of a family when it comes to a marriage. If a boy and girl like each other and want to get married then does it matter if they don't get along well with each other's families?

My personal take on it is that if after marriage you are all going to live together under one roof then yes it would make a difference. You wouldn't feel much happiness amidst an atmosphere of discord and bitterness. Even otherwise, wouldn't you want your life partner to care for those who've taken care of you all your life? And wouldn't you want your family in return to love the one you love so much?

in fact marriage is both complicated and easy!
it depends that how you look at it and what you expect from it....
lower your expectations and your happiness level with go higher and higher...
mmm, there are a lot to discuss ;),is n't it?

I don't think expectations and happiness are inversly related.

More than anything it is a question of luck.

Many times people with the simplest of expectations have the toughest time finding a life-partner!

That and the fact that one must spend a lot of time together before marriage to truly understand the other person.

I do think there should not be any expectations before hand, just a clear understanding of what is important to ourselves w.r.t. marriage partner.

Then again how an arranged marriage and love marriage develop are quite different. Depending on the circumstances and the type of marriage the whole situation can be easy or tough.
