Chain se humko kabhi, aap ne jeene na diya
Zeher bhi chaha agar, peena to peene na diya
Chand ke rath mein, raat ki dulhan jab jab aayegi
Yaad humaari, aap ke dil ko, tadapaa jaayegi
Aap ne jo hain diyaa, woh to kisi ne na diya
Zeher bhi chaha agar, peena to peene na diya
Aap ka gham jo, is dil mein din raat agar hoga
Soch ke yeh dam ghutataa hai, phir kaise guzar hoga
Kaash na aati apni judaai, maut hi aa jaati
Koi bahaane chain humaari, rooh to paa jaati
Ek pal hasnaa kabhi, dil ki lagi ne na diya
This was the song I found myself humming when again today I was made to run around thanks to the Admin Section at NCL. People in my lab think however its good because its made me get up from my seat. :p
I did some research on this song and found that Chain se humko kabhi...had been composed by O. P. Nayyar for the film Pran Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaaye (1973). It has been very beautifully rendered by Asha Bhosle and you can just feel the sadness which is evident even in the lyrics written by S. H. Bihari. This is infact the last song that Asha Bhosle sung for O. P. Nayyar before their fallout. Very few musical instruments have been used in this song and yet its soulful. Thus, the whole weight of making the song work rests on the singer. In most of today's songs, they have hazaar things playing and yet there is no melody. I wonder how many of the singers would remember even the tunes of the songs to which they've been lending their voices currently.

Hey! What happened? Why are you resigning? What 'new post' were you talking about?
Don't worry... I am simply resigning from my SRF post under a project to rejoin as CSIR-SRF. I'll be continuing to work exactly where I am in NCL only. :)
Btw what did you think of the song lyrics? Aren't they beautiful?
Oh, ok!
Yeah, the song is very nice indeed.
